Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice
President and CEO, Morehouse School of Medicine
Montgomery Rice has spent a decade as Morehouse School of Medicine’s first woman president. During that time, the infertility specialist and researcher has focused on boosting student enrollment and building up the institution’s research labs, among other objectives. This year, the institution received a $175 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Greenwood Initiative, which Montgomery Rice said the school will use toward its mission of training competent and compassionate physicians. She has received several awards, including the Horatio Alger Award for leadership in 2017. In 2022, she was appointed to the President’s Committee on the National Medal of Science. She also serves on the Georgia Commission on Women and as a director for UnitedHealthGroup, among other positions. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
