Dr. Shawn Griffin
President and CEO, URAC
As the first physician to head URAC, Griffin brings a human-centered approach to the quality and safety nonprofit. Under his leadership, URAC has accredited a record number of clients while adding to its offerings, including a health equity accreditation in partnership with the National Minority Quality Forum. This year, the organization also announced the launch of an accreditation for community health worker programs, aimed at standardizing them across the country. Griffin has taken his passions to Washington, D.C., where he held URAC’s first-ever White House meeting to promote accreditation as leverage for mental health parity and health equity. He has additionally supported regulation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to strengthen oversight of accrediting bodies. At the state level, Griffin’s advocacy has contributed to tangible change in California, Kansas and Alaska.
