Lateef was named president and CEO of Rush University Medical Center in 2019; president of the system in 2021; and system CEO in 2022. He has publicly stressed the need for a systemwide strategy — rather than discrete actions — to close health disparities among patients and community members. During a recent measles outbreak, Lateef’s actions enabled Rush staff to increase vaccinations among asylum seekers and limit spread of the disease. Under his leadership, in 2023, Chicago-headquartered Rush opened a 10-story outpatient center for patients with cancer, digestive diseases and other needs.
