Dr. Joseph Betancourt
President, Commonwealth Fund
Betancourt, who was tapped to head the Commonwealth Fund last year, has made it his mission to further the organization’s values of promoting scientific evidence and promoting well-being. In the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, he reflected on the stakes for Latino people, particularly with regard to the cost of prescription drugs and the future of the Affordable Care Act. Under his leadership, the fund issued wide-ranging reports regarding the state of health insurance in the country; care affordability for older adults; and deaths from gun violence, among other topics. He formerly was the senior vice president for Equity and Community Health at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was also founding director of the Disparities Solutions Center. He is an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow.
