Dr. Jonathan Perlin
President and CEO, The Joint Commission
Perlin — who has led the nonprofit organization since 2022 — has looked to reduce administrative burdens among clinicians while promoting safety and responsibility. The Joint Commission has introduced eight new domestic accreditation and certification programs in the past two years, geared toward addressing goals such as health equity and environmental sustainability. At the same time, the organization, which accredits more than 22,000 U.S. healthcare organizations and programs, has eliminated more than 350 standards. This year, Perlin has made the safe use of artificial intelligence in healthcare a top priority, convening key congressional and healthcare leaders in September to map out responsible use of the technology and produce a whitepaper for the next presidential administration. He also spearheaded a partnership to recognize unpaid caregivers and leverage their skills in the health sector.
