With Benjamin at the helm since 2002, APHA has continued its 152-year mission to expand public health’s reach and promote effective policies and practices. Under his leadership, a five-year strategic plan was finalized to guide the association’s mission and vision through 2028. Early this year, APHA also set its advocacy priorities to include boosting public health infrastructure and funding, upholding the Affordable Care Act and addressing the health impacts of climate change. Benjamin teamed up with five other association CEOs to encourage healthy workplaces through access to vaccinations, workplace flexibility and support during stressful times. He additionally led creation of the Alliance for the Public’s Health, a collaborative that advances public health and equity, works to prevent disease and promotes well-being. He serves on the boards of Research!America and the Environmental Defense Fund.
