Dr. Bruce Siegel
President and CEO, America's Essential Hospitals
Siegel has led the association that advocates on behalf of the nation’s safety-net hospitals since 2010. Under his guidance this year, the organization lobbied to block $8 billion in reductions to Medicaid disproportionate share payments to hospitals that serve large numbers of low-income people. Congress ultimately approved a one-year delay in the cuts. The association also opposed pharmaceutical industry proposals that it contended would undermine the 340B drug discount program that also benefits low-income patients. Siegel is a sought-after thought leader for industry events and meets frequently with congressional and administration officials on legislation and policy issues. He previously served as president and CEO of New York City Health + Hospitals and Tampa General Healthcare. He also was New Jersey’s health commissioner and director of the Center for Health Care Quality at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
