Diversity Leaders in Healthcare - Luminaries

Copeland has led Kaiser’s diversity and inclusion efforts for more than 10 years. He spearheaded the collection of member demographic data to better understand treatment outcomes, leading to the elimination of disparities in mortality and medication uptake for Black and Latino patients with HIV and in the control of blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose for Black Medicare patients. He led the development of a workforce equity scorecard and collaborated on the creation of Belong@KP, aimed at promoting Kaiser employees’ understanding of bias and racism. He serves on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Equity Advisory Group and as a board member of the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine.
