Betty Jo Rocchio
Senior vice president and chief nurse executive, Mercy
Rocchio, in her current role since 2020, recently led implementation of a new artificial intelligence-enabled staffing management system designed to meet three goals at St. Louis-based Mercy: improve workforce efficiency, attract and retain high-quality nurses and decrease unnecessary labor costs. Through use of the technology, the health system in 2023 reduced its reliance on travel nurses, saving $30.7 million. Staff turnover and time spent on scheduling and other tasks also decreased. Under Rocchio's leadership, Mercy last year also created its first nursing innovation unit.
