Allison Sesso
President and CEO, Undue Medical Debt
Since joining the organization in 2020, Sesso has led Undue Medical Debt, formerly RIP Medical Debt, making a major splash in the realm of eliminating medical debt. The nonprofit has so far relieved more than $14 billion in medical debt, making a difference for upward of 9 million people. Sesso played a prominent role in these accomplishments by hiring key personnel, enhancing operations and investing in infrastructure such as UMD’s “debt engine,” which enables large amounts of medical debt to be qualified and eliminated quickly. She also refocused the organization on younger debt directly from providers rather than the secondary market, and she spearheaded UMD’s partnerships with 19 local governments. Sesso has consulted with the White House and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on national policy regarding medical debt.
