Brooks-LaSure was appointed to lead the agency in 2021, following a decades-long career in the public and private sectors. Since then, CMS has carried out major changes affecting the health sector, including final rules on Affordable Care Act plan standardization; how much Medicare Advantage carriers must pay for errors in diagnostic coding; and reimbursement rates for hospital outpatient providers. She has also steered CMS in preparing to implement the Inflation Reduction Act’s Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program. She is committed to helping connect underserved communities with care.
