Top Organizations for Diversity - 2023

Community First Health Plans covers more than 170,000 members in Texas’ Bexar County and its seven surrounding counties through STAR Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare Advantage and exchange health plans. It has affected more than 3 million lives in its nearly three-decade history.

Under board and executive leadership, Community First Health Plans has:

• Implemented an Inclusivity Initiative to cultivate a diverse and equitable environment where every individual feels empowered regardless of background.
• Created multiple courses on diversity, equity and inclusion within its Learning Central online training platform. Employees are required to review the company’s Cultural Competency Plan each year, which provides guidance on providing services to its health plan members. 
• Established a food pantry initiative designed to help fight food insecurity in an inclusive way. Nearly 50 food pantries have been installed throughout Bexar County, Texas, and surrounding counties at schools, churches and other settings.
