Top Innovators - 2023

As founder and CEO of the NPHI, a national advocacy organization for nonprofit hospice and palliative care providers, Koutsoumpas has overseen its growth to more than 100 member hospice organizations. He established NPHI’s Innovation Lab to address advanced illness care needs by convening clinical subject matter experts, sharing best practices and facilitating access to nationwide resources. Research has shown a reduction in hospitalizations and emergency department visits among member hospices participating in the lab’s Advanced Cardiac Care program. Koutsoumpas has developed strategic partnerships with organizations such as the American Lung Association and the American Heart Foundation, and regularly hosts virtual meetings with dozens of hospice leaders nationwide to engage the community and discuss methods for improving care.
