Todd Dunn
Vice president of enterprise innovation, Advocate Health
Dunn, who has more than two decades of experience in operational innovation, in 2021 introduced a new model called Design for Impact. The framework brings together clinicians, executives and other stakeholders in an effort to ensure that technology solutions remain grounded in the needs and experiences of those who deliver and receive care. Organizational leaders used the method to shape their approach to two pilot programs at community clinics in Charlotte, North Carolina, resulting in reduced emergency department visits and inpatient stays. Three Atrium Health hospitals, part of the Advocate system, used the Design for Impact process to bring kidney dialysis in-house, with an expected bottom-line impact of millions of dollars. In 2022, Dunn established the Impact Academy, a 12-week training course to teach the Design for Impact process throughout the organization.
