Brown, who is board-certified in family medicine, hospice care, and palliative care, is also the executive director of Northwell Health Solutions. She has been with New Hyde Park, New York-based Northwell since 2014. She helped launch Northwell’s Center for Maternal Health, which seeks to address conditions that can arise from preconception to one year after delivery. The center’s mission is to reduce maternal mortality rates—especially for Black women, who are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. In a 20-month pilot, the center’s Maternal Outcomes Navigation program, which helps connect high-risk patients with support, reduced pregnancy-related hospitalizations for life-threatening problems by 47% for all women and 69% for Black women.
