A practicing pediatric orthopedic surgeon and a former video game developer, Barad founded Osso VR in 2016 in a bid to fill gaps he saw in contemporary surgical training such as outdated curricula, decreasing numbers of physicians in academia, and limited resources for in-person skill building. Since then, the virtual reality company has partnered with nonprofits to develop tools for obstetricians and cardiovascular professionals, among other clinicians. It also launched Osso Academy, which offers more than two dozen modules for use at academic medical centers.
