Valiuddin is the force behind an initiative to use integrated data intelligence to map and track the effectiveness of CareFirst’s work with members, with the aim of improving care and reducing cost. As a result of the insights gathered, the insurer has curated its programs and services to make them more member-centric. The work has led to millions of dollars in identified savings, including $230 million in savings for employers and a 12% decline in hospital readmissions as a result of using advanced utilization management strategies and evidence-based guidelines for prior authorization. After getting buy-in and scaling the initiative across CareFirst, Valiuddin and his team are looking at external partnerships to reach a wider audience.
