Dr. Tomislav Mihaljevic
President and CEO, Cleveland Clinic
Mihaljevic has led the health system–with 23 hospitals, plus 275 outpatient locations–since 2018. Earlier this year, Cleveland Clinic and IBM installed an IBM-managed quantum computer on the clinic’s main campus, aimed at accelerating biomedical discoveries. The organizations hailed the technology as the first of its kind for healthcare research. Also in 2023, Verizon Business installed a private 5G network at Cleveland Clinic’s new “smart” hospital in Mentor, Ohio, with the goal of supporting digital health endeavors such as patient check-in kiosks, hospital resource tracking and virtual reality for clinicians and patients. Meanwhile, Cleveland Clinic is working with Microsoft, which has invested heavily in OpenAI, to develop administrative and clinical functions for the company’s GPT-4 generative AI technology at the health system. Mihaljevic joined Cleveland Clinic in 2004 as a surgeon and has filled several leadership roles, including two years as CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He is a member of the GE HealthCare board of directors.
