Samuel Hazen

Hazen oversees HCA’s 182 hospitals, some 2,300 ambulatory care sites and a workforce of more than 290,000. According to HCA, the company provides about 6% of all U.S. inpatient hospital services. Now in his fifth decade at HCA, Hazen was promoted to his current role in 2019. Under his leadership, the organization acquired majority ownership of Galen College of Nursing in 2020 to increase the capacity to train nurses. Since then, Galen has added 12 campuses, with Hazen approving more than $200 million in 2023 for the college’s expansion. He is the board chair for the Federation of American Hospitals. This year, he spearheaded collaboration with the American Heart Association and American Stroke Foundation to launch a national initiative to improve heart care and prevent strokes.
