Micky Tripathi
National coordinator for health information technology, Department of Health and Human Services
Tripathi, known as an interoperability pioneer, has headed the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology since 2021. ONC this year proposed a rule regarding the implementation of the 21st Century Cures Act and the enhancement of the Health IT Certification Program, with an eye toward supporting the exchange and use of electronic health information. Later in the year, ONC and other agencies issued a proposed rule calling for hospitals, physicians and accountable care organizations to be subject to significant penalties if they block appropriate access to patient information in electronic health records. ONC under Tripathi’s leadership has also expressed interest in regulating the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Tripathi previously was president and CEO of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative and founding president and CEO of the Indiana Health Information Exchange.
