With Davis at the helm, UPMC is investing aggressively for the future, spending $994 million on capital projects in 2022 and about $346 million in the first half of 2023. A 17-story inpatient tower with 636 beds is slated to open at UPMC’s Oakland, Pennsylvania, hospital campus in 2026; this year, the Mercy Pavilion for vision and rehabilitation services opened in Pittsburgh, and a behavioral health facility opened in Somerset, Pennsylvania. UPMC and two-hospital Washington Health System this year agreed to merge if they get regulatory approval.
