Leslie Davis
President and CEO, UPMC
With Davis at the helm, UPMC is investing aggressively for the future, spending $994 million on capital projects in 2022 and about $346 million in the first half of 2023. A 17-story inpatient tower with 636 beds is slated to open at UPMC’s Oakland, Pennsylvania, hospital campus in 2026; this year, the Mercy Pavilion for vision and rehabilitation services opened in Pittsburgh, and a behavioral health facility opened in Somerset, Pennsylvania. UPMC and two-hospital Washington Health System this year agreed to merge if they get regulatory approval. In 2022, the system formed the Center for Sustainability and signed the White House Climate Pledge, with the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030. To that end, UPMC announced it will phase out use of the anesthetic Desflurane—which can harm the ozone layer—by the end of 2023. Davis was promoted to her current position in 2021, having previously been president of the health services division and executive vice president of UPMC, among other leadership positions at the health system.
