President and CEO, The Leapfrog Group
Binder, who has led the nonprofit watchdog organization since 2008, spearheaded the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which gives letter grades to hospitals based on their safety records. This fall, the organization reported that hospitals have reduced infection rates but fall short on patient experience measures. The findings followed a summer report in partnership with the Urban Institute showing that Black and Latino patients are at risk of experiencing adverse safety events even at highly ranked hospitals. The Leapfrog Group also partnered this year with the American Diabetes Association to launch a national designation program to recognize hospitals that demonstrate a strong commitment to inpatients with diabetes. Binder serves on the board of the National Quality Forum and the advisory board for HealthTrackRx, an infectious disease laboratory.
