Dr. Jonathan Perlin
President and CEO, The Joint Commission
After stepping into the Joint Commission’s leading role in 2022, Perlin directed a review of its accreditation requirements to prioritize those that benefit patient care and population health. This resulted in the elimination of more than 350 standards across accreditation programs in 2023. An advocate for combating climate change, Perlin led the Joint Commission to launch a voluntary certification that will recognize organizations starting in 2024 for their environmental sustainability improvements. Perlin co-leads a working group for the National Academy of Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector. He previously was president of clinical operations and chief medical officer for HCA Healthcare. He is the first president and CEO to simultaneously head The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources, an affiliate that helps provider organizations adopt safety and quality best practices.
