Siegel is in charge of the association that provides advocacy, policy development and research in support of America’s safety-net health systems. This year, he urged the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to create a definition of a safety-net hospital, identify which hospitals meet that definition and adopt payment policies specific for those hospitals. He also, in his capacity as the organization’s leader, has recently been pushing back against site-neutral payment policy proposals for hospital outpatient services. Siegel previously served as president and CEO of New York City Health + Hospitals, and Tampa General Healthcare. He also served as New Jersey’s health commissioner and director of the Center for Health Care Quality at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
