Walsh has led HealthPartners since 2017. The Minneapolis-based system—which includes eight hospitals and a health plan—bills itself as the country’s largest consumer-governed nonprofit healthcare organization, with a board made up of patients, enrollees and other users of its services. It has worked to use its resources to boost preventive care among members and patients. In October, HealthPartners launched a “hybrid preventive care experience” combining the services of its primary care clinics and its online clinic Virtuwell. Through the service, a nurse practitioner reviews a patient-provided digital health assessment and creates a plan for tests, immunizations and other care. Walsh joined HealthPartners in 1994 as corporate counsel and later served as its chief marketing officer. She is a founding member of the CEO Coalition, which is working to set safety standards for healthcare workers.
