President and CEO, MetroHealth System
Steed is the first woman, the first Black person and the first nurse to serve as president and CEO of the MetroHealth System, a four-hospital safety-net system organization serving Ohio’s Cuyahoga County. Steed, who joined MetroHealth in 2022, has made health equity a primary focus of her leadership and vision. In 2023, the organization launched a blood and marrow transplant program for patients with limited resources who may face difficulty meeting requirements at other centers. The health system also houses the first high school of its kind in the country, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and explore different careers in the medical field. Before joining MetroHealth, Steed was executive vice president and system chief operating officer of Sinai Chicago Health System and president of Mount Sinai and Sinai Children’s Hospital. At Sinai Chicago, she led a turnaround that facilitated more than $200 million in improvements over three years while reducing hospital-acquired infections and mortality rates by 40%.
