Kathleen Sanford
Executive vice president and chief nursing officer, CommonSpirit Health
Sanford, responsible for nearly 45,000 nurses,
has acted to address the staffing shortage at the
Catholic healthcare giant with a multi-pronged plan
that includes creating an internal staffing agency;
establishing a year-long residency program for new
graduates; and adopting an integrated care program to
connect virtual and floor nurses, allowing processes to be divided more effectively. Sanford, a former U.S. Army officer, previously worked as chief nurse and acting state surgeon/medical commander of the Washington Army National Guard.
