Dr. Lee Fleisher
Chief medical officer and director, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Fleisher is chief medical officer and director at the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality at CMS. Fleisher, who joined the agency in 2020, is responsible for national clinical, quality and safety standards for healthcare facilities and providers. He also determines coverage for services improving Medicare beneficiaries’ health outcomes. Fleisher has expressed concern about safety practices being unevenly embedded in the healthcare system and has signaled CMS’ plans to foster high-quality care, including via its accrediting organizations. He is professor emeritus and the former chair of anesthesiology and critical care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
