2023 Diversity Leaders Luminaries
Ernest Grant
Vice dean of diversity, equity and inclusion, Duke University School of Nursing
As the immediate past president of the American Nurses Association, Grant steered the country’s largest nursing organization through the most tumultuous years of the pandemic. In that position, he helped launch the formation of the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing, which aims to understand and change the effects racial bias has on the industry and with which he continues to work. He has held multiple other leadership positions, including president of the North Carolina Nurses Association—where he was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame—and board chair of the National Fire Protection Association. He has shown his commitment to fostering the nursing profession through his Duke role and as an adjunct faculty member at Carolina Nursing.
