John Couris
President and CEO, Tampa General Hospital
With each surge in COVID-19 cases there was a growing need to monitor bed capacity in the Tampa Bay area. Couris and his team turned to an innovative data-sharing solution by using the health system’s CareComm platform in collaboration with other health systems. The “mission control” clinical command center uses artificial intelligence, predictive analytics and industrial engineering to improve safety, quality and cost. In 2020, Couris also spearheaded the Global Emerging Diseases Institute, which focuses on research and care of patients with infectious diseases like COVID-19. Tampa General was the first Florida hospital to offer monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID patients under emergency use authorization from the federal government.
