Dr. Beth Ripley
Deputy chief officer, Veterans Health Administration Office of Healthcare Innovation and Learning, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Ripley leads the VHA’s 3D Printing Network and chairs the VHA 3D Printing Advisory Committee. When clinicians are preparing for a reconstructive surgery, both the patient and the surgeon can visualize a procedure by working with a customized 3D model. VHA dentists can use 3D printed models to plan dental implants. Occupational therapists use 3D scans and printers to manufacture custom orthotics with same-day fitting and delivery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ripley led a team of engineers, researchers, clinicians and regulatory specialists to design and test 3D printed personal protective equipment, nasal swabs, pipette tips and other needed medical devices to support front-line staff.
