Betancourt has worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for more than 20 years, where he has led multiple efforts focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. He spearheaded a major expansion of the hospital’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion; the launch of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Center; and an equity and inclusion campaign focused on arts, culture, music, literature and the celebration of special heritage events. He has delivered dozens of presentations on diversity, equity and inclusion to hospital and health plan boards and executive teams, and sits on multiple advisory boards informing this work.
