Dr. André Churchwell
Vice chancellor of outreach, inclusion and belonging; chief diversity officer, Vanderbilt University
At Vanderbilt University, Churchwell collaborates with all stakeholders to create institutional capabilities dedicated to furthering diversity, equity and inclusion. Before taking on a university-wide role, Churchwell worked as the chief diversity officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center and senior associate dean for diversity affairs in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and he remains committed to mentoring medical students to ensure they have the tools needed for success. His work has led to more diverse medical school attendance: About 25% of each entering class is a member of a group underrepresented in medicine. Churchwell received the Vanderbilt University Pioneer in Diversity Award in 2017.
