Samuel Hazen
CEO, HCA Healthcare
As CEO since 2019, Hazen has worked to keep the for-profit health system at the forefront of medicine through continuous innovation and growth. The system operates 182 hospitals and about 2,200 ambulatory care sites. Last November, HCA announced plans to add another three acute-care facilities in Florida, building capacity to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. HCA also bulked up its urgent-care footprint in the state this year, adding 59 locations through a deal with MD Now Urgent Care. In January, HCA announced plans to build five hospitals in Texas. The company also will collaborate with Johnson & Johnson to improve detection of early-stage lung cancer in Black patients, advance nurse education and training, and study the role digital technology can play in treating cardiovascular diseases. Hazen is a 39-year veteran of HCA.
