Since joining the firm in 2019, Jagannath has led investments in about a dozen healthcare companies. Deals included stakes in precision medicine, value-based mental healthcare and supply chain solutions. In 2021, Blackstone joined with Anthem, now called Elevance Health, to form a digital health startup that uses artificial intelligence to answer common consumer health questions and diagnose routine conditions via text. The company also in 2021 invested in Medable, a decentralized clinical trial platform, with an aim toward transforming the drug development pipeline and reducing inefficiencies. In February, Jagannath was promoted to the newly created position overseeing healthcare investing across the firm’s private equity, tactical opportunities and growth businesses.
