Binder, who has led Leapfrog Group since 2008, uses employers’ purchasing power to push for improved quality, safety and transparency in the nation’s hospitals. Under her leadership, the organization launched the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which assigns letter grades assessing the safety of hospitals across the country. Most recently, the group has focused on the reduction of diagnostic errors—defined as a diagnosis that is delayed, inaccurate or missed, or one that is correct but not communicated to the patient and their family. Binder is a frequent speaker on healthcare value from the purchaser and consumer perspective. Before heading Leapfrog, she was vice president of Franklin Community Health Network for eight years and was a senior policy adviser to New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
