Impicciche has led the 142-hospital Catholic health system since July 2019, focusing on issues related to increasing access to care. He has been vocal about making gun violence a public health issue, promoting racial justice, lowering drug costs, and using technology and innovation to improve healthcare quality and efficiency. In November, the system announced creation of the Ascension Foundation to develop, support and promote activities that advance health equity, including programs that disrupt generational poverty and create new pathways to economic stability for families and communities. Impicciche has worked at St. Louis-based Ascension for more than 18 years, serving as president and chief operating officer before assuming the CEO title. He succeeded longtime leader Anthony Tersigni.
