Adams took over the top job at Kaiser Permanente in 2019 after rising through the ranks to become executive vice president and group president. As part of his responsibility for health plan and hospital operations in all eight Kaiser Permanente regions, Adams has focused on growing the nonprofit health system’s membership and widening access to care. Under his leadership, Kaiser—which serves more than 12 million members and employs upward of 225,000 people—has made connectivity one of its top priorities. At the system, 4 in 10 outpatient visits are logged by video or phone call, for an average of 30,000 remote visits per weekday. Earlier this year, Kaiser joined Graphite Health, which aims to tackle the issue of interoperability and take it nationwide by creating a common digital language.
