Elevance Health, formerly called Anthem, operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in 14 states. In a bid to transform the company from a traditional health insurance business to the “digitally enabled platform for health we are becoming,” as Boudreaux has said, it has been on a buying spree. Deals include investing in a physician enablement startup, primary care services and a pharmacy benefit manager tech platform. The company has also developed the Sydney Health App, which houses an artificial intelligence-driven symptom tracker, and partnered with a consumer artificial intelligence health company, K Health, to launch a digital health venture. Boudreaux, who took the top job in 2017, brings to the role a track record of leading multi-billion-dollar businesses. She was formerly CEO of UnitedHealthcare, responsible for $120 billion in revenue.
