Dr. Rhonda Medows
President of population health management, Providence
Medows established the office of population health at the 52-hospital Catholic system in 2015. She oversees the organization’s Medicaid, Medicare and commercial population health strategies, which includes supporting value-based care. At Providence, the staff leverages the provider’s scale—120,000 caregivers across seven states—to acquire resources and then deliver care at the local level. To help identify a community’s needs, the system created a proprietary platform that includes electronic health records, claims data and social determinants of health information. “It doesn’t count unless you measure it,” she told Modern Healthcare this year. Medows is also CEO of Ayin Health Solutions, Providence’s population health management company. Before joining the health system, she was chief medical officer at UnitedHealth Group.
