Dr. Marc Harrison
In August, Harrison announced he was stepping down as president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare, roles he’s held since 2016, to join venture capital firm General Catalyst. At Intermountain, he championed a model of value-based care that garnered a national following. His five-point model included linking science to patient care; disrupting the for-profit model of drug production; tying payers with providers; reducing costs while improving care; and addressing the social determinants of health. In April, he led Intermountain’s merger with SCL Health, forming a 33-hospital system across seven states. At General Catalyst, a growing area of interest is home-based care. This summer the firm reportedly raised $670 million for a second healthcare fund on the heels of closing a $600 million fund a year earlier. It’s also working with 15 providers, including Intermountain, to create a digital health ecosystem in which the organizations can learn from each other.
