Wisdom leads efforts at the health system related to community benefit and population health, focusing on alleviating disparities. Most recently, she has redoubled her efforts at reducing infant and maternal deaths by opening a prenatal care center in Detroit this October. At the center, certified nurse midwives and community workers guide potentially at-risk women through their pregnancy and baby’s first year by offering regular checkups and education. The center is backed by Henry Ford and expands on the first version of the endeavor launched 10 years ago by Wisdom through her Women-Inspired Neighborhood Network. Wisdom, who has worked at Henry Ford for 15 years, aspires to take her plan across the state and beyond. She was previously Michigan’s state surgeon general.
