Dr. Karen DeSalvo
Chief health officer, Google
DeSalvo is an internist with extensive public health policy experience: Before joining Google as its first-ever chief health officer in 2019, she was the United States' acting assistant secretary for health and the national coordinator for health information and technology. DeSalvo supports the power of technology, especially through artificial intelligence, to help fill gaps in essential services such as immunizations, pediatric care and cancer screening. Under DeSalvo’s guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic, the tech giant has launched more than 200 new products, features and initiatives, and provided in-kind donations of more than $1 billion. As searches for “mental health help” soared to record levels, Google enhanced resources on Search and YouTube, partnering with groups such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness to make accessing mental healthcare more seamless.
