Through its Village Medical subsidiary, VillageMD—which is majority owned by Walgreens Boots Alliance—operates more than 250 clinical locations in 22 markets. In November, the organization announced plans to acquire Summit Health-CityMD for $8.9 billion, creating what the companies called one of the largest independent provider groups in the country. The proposed deal followed announcements of VillageMD’s expansions into Massachusetts and New Hampshire this year.
