David Cordani
Chairman and CEO, Cigna
Cordani has tightened his focus on growing Cigna’s global healthcare business after taking the top post in 2009, with an eye to expanding further into primary care and telemedicine. In 2018, he spearheaded a merger with Express Scripts, one of the country’s largest pharmacy benefit managers. On the policy front, he has been outspoken about opposition to “Medicare for All,” pointing to the potential role of private insurers in driving innovation and expanding access to healthcare. Earlier this year, the insurance giant sold off more than $5 billion of life, accident and supplemental benefits businesses to Chubb, with Cordani saying the transaction will enable Cigna to focus on growing its global health portfolio. The company also allotted $450 million to Cigna Ventures, its venture capital division, and another $1.25 billion to fund outside projects. Cordani added the role of chairman in 2022.
