Hundorfean was tapped to head the 14-hospital Pittsburgh-based system in 2016. Since then, she has overseen a $1.7 billion capital campaign to build five hospitals, six cancer centers and a number of clinics, as well as to expand existing facilities. Over the past several years, the system has also added a mental health center, an autoimmunity institute and a Parkinson’s care center—all of which are unique to the region, according to the health system. Allegheny employs more than 21,000 people and is the provider arm of Highmark Health, an integrated delivery and finance system. Hundorfean previously worked for 10 years as chief administrative officer at the Cleveland Clinic, beginning in 2005. On January 1, 2023, Hundorfean will transition to a new enterprise role as chief living health development officer at Highmark Health, Allegheny’s parent company.
