Chiquita Brooks-LaSure
Administrator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Since May 2021, Brooks-LaSure has been the top executive overseeing the country's massive Medicare and Medicaid programs, as well the Children’s Health Insurance Program and HealthCare.gov—among other responsibilities. She’s also one of the leaders working to advance President Joe Biden’s health policy goals, including bolstering nursing home quality and safety, expanding access to care and lowering costs. In October, Brooks-LaSure said poor-performing nursing homes could be denied payment for new admissions or fined if they failed to improve. CMS also is scrutinizing more carefully the way Medicare Advantage plans are marketed to consumers, as enrollment among eligible enrollees continues to soar. Before joining CMS, Brooks-LaSure was a managing director at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips for more than five years.
