Berdan joined Texas Health in 1986 as vice president and administrator to oversee construction of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth. He rose through the ranks to become CEO in 2014. Berdan has championed the health system’s move toward value-based care and formed partnerships to facilitate that. In recent moves to increase access to services, the 27-hospital organization is spending about $92 million to double the capacity of Texas Health Hospital Rockwall, a joint venture between Texas Health Resources and area physicians in a high-growth area in North Texas. The project will add a Level II neonatal intensive-care unit, a cardiac catheterization lab and a larger emergency department. In October, the system added its latest urgent care clinic, bringing the total number of urgent care clinics built to 19 since 2020. The system also operates 33 surgery centers and 14 behavioral health clinics.
