Sammie Mosier, DHA
Senior vice president and chief nurse executive, HCA Healthcare
Mosier, who was promoted to her current role in December 2021, leads a nurse workforce of 93,000 based on what she calls the four pillars of professional development: advocacy and leadership, staffing support, education and professional practice. She plays a key role in the health system’s objective to recruit and retain nurses amid growing shortages and rising costs, as well as contributing to its mission to leverage and analyze data from about 35 million annual patient encounters across the system’s 182 hospitals and other 2,300 care sites. Mosier will also oversee expansion of the system’s Galen College of Nursing, with the school set to grow to 15 campuses by year-end, up from five in 2020, and the 13th campus set to open in September. According to HCA, the growth will make it one of the nation’s largest nurse educators. Mosier joined the company in 1996 as a registered nurse and has held a number of nursing leadership and management roles at HCA since 2012.
