Rear Admiral Aisha Mix, DNP
Chief nurse officer, Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service
Mix advises on recruitment, assignment, deployment, retention and career development of nurse professionals at the Office of the Surgeon General and the Department of Health and Human Services, overseeing 4,500 Commissioned Corps and civilian nurses. Internationally, she represents HHS to the World Health Assembly, where she offers expertise on nursing practice, education and leadership. In addition, she is an administrator and adviser to several other government departments. Mix has held her current position since 2019 and has been a registered nurse for more than 27 years. Among her previous jobs, she was a public health analyst for the Health Resources and Services Administration, where she worked on improving nursing workforce diversity and retention, and on enhancing access to care for underserved communities.
